A 40-year old night security guard, Mr. Keke Toluwani, has been arrested in Lagos after he broke into two shops and stole two wrapper cloths worth N6,000 and a bag of rice to please his wife.
The incident happened at Alimosho area of Lagos where he was a street market guard.
It was gathered that Mr. Toluwani was under pressure from his wife who had accused him of not taking care of her and insisted that he must buy wrappers to pacify her. Since Mr. Toluwani had no money to fulfill the wife’s demand, he chose to get the wrappers by any means to please his wife.
He was said to have broken into the shops belonging to two women, Mrs. Shonde Kudirat and Mrs. Ogunleye Yemisi, and stole the wrappers. Before he escaped with the items, one of the residents saw him when he was carting them away. In the morning, the owners of the items raised alarm and they were told that it was Mr. Toluwani that stole the items that were missing.
Toluwani was caught and the complainants concluded that he was also the person that stole some bags of rice were missing. The total amount of the items stolen was put at N176,000.
The matter was reported to the police and he was arrested. He was later charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector G. Simon did not oppose his being granted bail. Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni granted Toluwani bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties  in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 6th August, 2018.
