After the fast rising star "Mr Legend" made a post about not fuck*** With Afrobeat artistes. A lady identified as "Tokoni Boloupremo" on the popular Facebook app disagreed with his statement on Afrobeats.

Mr Legend said 80% Of Afrobeat Music got no useful content, only vibes and trash Lyrics recycled over and over again.

In his words;

"I love a couple Nigerian artists, I appreciate their talents but I don't really FW Afro beats... I don't like it...80% of it got no useful content just vibes and trash lyrics recycled over and over again... Come at me I'll delete ur comments 😈😈😂😂."

And the Lady (Tokoni Boloupremo) Replied;

"These "music buffs" be claiming they woke by sleeping on afrobeat, talking about; "There's no lyrical content." Like Fela Kuti wasn't the king of meaningful songs AND Afrobeat, like artists like Seun, Asa, Femi Kuti, Burna Boy, etc. Don't shurn out deep music all the time. Even mainstream artists like Tecno, wizkid, P-square, have used their music to portray important issues at some point.

Afrobeat is not about flowery language and over complicated lyrics. It's about the emotion, the instrumental, the FEELING. If you listen to Fela, Sunny, or any of the greats, they didn't talk too much. Some people today will say their lyrics were too simple but they were FELT regardless. That's the beauty of afrobeat, not "punchlines." If you don't see the beauty then fine but just say; "I don't like it." And stop! Don't disrespect the music! It has cultural relevance.

A black European would never disrespect the Western hip-hop you love so much,  even though, these days, it seems rappers only talk about sex drugs and money because hip-hop has cultural relevance to them! Why can't we respect our own like that?"
