The current Dean of Arts, Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa State, Prof Ogaga Okuyade, a 1998 graduate of the Department of English and Literary Studies, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, escaped death by whiskers while trying to avoid being abducted by kidnappers on Monday, 5th April, 2021 along Eku-Sanubi Road in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The kidnap attempt took place at 5pm on the said day.

Oasis Magazine (OM) gathered that the kidnappers who the lecturer said were three in number had, on sighting him, pursued his vehicle which they hit from behind and thus made him lose control of the vehicle which led to the car’s somersault twice.

According to sources, the angry kidnappers would have shot the university don dead who was already trapped in his vehicle for proving stubborn. Prof. Okuyade may have been shot dead for trying to escape,” our source said.

Adding: “He was rescued by Chief Great Ogboru’s convoy. Chief Ogboru was said to have missed his trip abroad hence he returned home. It was on his way back to Abraka that his convoy ran into the incident. He and his team quickly rescued the professor and turned the vehicle up, having been upside down. The kidnappers bolted away on sighting the mobile policemen.”

According to sources, the Professor has been transferred to an orthopedic hospital for further treatment of his broken arm and bruises on his body.

The university lecturer was on his way to his school, NDU, when the incident occurred.

When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Etaga Bright, said he was yet to be informed of the incidence.
